Gary Shelton Magician from: North Carolina, United States (available for travel) Gary Shelton’s introduction usually goes like this… Over 30 years as a Magician Over 20 years as a Comedian Over 12 years as a Clown Over 3 years of shock therapy It’s said he began doing magic at the age of 6 when he made a nickel disappear … he swallowed it. The truth is his first brush with magic came on the midway of the county fair. For the cost of one pure silver coin the mysteries of the blade box were revealed to him, and a lifelong joy of magic and laughter were born. He began performing and perfecting his skills in the restaurants doing what is known as “close-up” magic. His skills kept him in demand at those same restaurants for over 3 years, but the call of a larger stage beckoned him. By the time he hit the stage at his first comedy club he was a veteran of thousands of shows.            Comedy Clubs were where Gary’s southern gentleman’s comedy routines really took root. Night after night he entertained audiences with an act that could best be described as a cross between Andy Griffith and David Blaine. He was a finalist in both Close-up magic and Cabaret contests. In 1989 He was chosen the Cabaret Performer of the Year by the Magicians of the Southeastern United States. In 1991 his comedic magic act made the finals of the “Tonight Show Comedy Challenge”. Within days of this great adventure Gary was blessed with twin sons; he made the decision then and there to stay close to home in order to see them grow up. This decision kept Gary off the National stage but the East Coast kept a great entertainer. In 1994 he took a break from work to go to Clown College. He used the skills he learned there to broaden all of his stage abilities. He has won contests in Magic, Comedy and Clowning. For the last 20 years Gary has been called upon by his fellow magicians, comedians and clowns to teach them many of his uniquely entertaining ways. He has written books including “How to Profit with Balloons” and his latest, “Be Prepared to Adlib”. In spite of his great success in lecturing thousands of entertainers, his heart remains in true performances—everything from birthday parties to corporate events
